Wiley Honours World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2020

Today is World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2020The day provides an opportunity to place a focus on safety and health in the workplace and honour those who have lost their lives due to incidents in the workplace.

As a project delivery company, Wiley’s number one priority is safety. Safety of the Wiley team, the extended Wiley network. Safety of companies Wiley work with. Safety of the projects Wiley proudly design, build and deliver.

Safe Work Australia reports that; the preliminary number of Australians killed at work in 2020 is 63; the cost of work-related injury and disease to the Australian economy is $61.8 billion; and $480 million is paid each year in workers’ compensation for work-related mental disorders.

On this day, Wiley urges industry to consider their safety plans and check in on each other. The world is in unprecedented times. The environment we are navigating is tumultuous and there are more odds stacked against us than ever, from existing to challenges to new ones such as COVID-19 and mental health concerns from being isolated and work-related stress.

Wiley are committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for their people, clients, contractors and visitors to the workplace. Their management of risk honours this commitment and has become one of the distinguishing factors for Wiley in a competitive market.

In honour of 2020 World Day for Safety and Health at Work, Wiley have produced a video showcasing what safety means to them and their site teams.

Wiley CEO, Robert Barron addressed safety in the company’s daily video update with all staff, providing aopportunity to spark more discussion and to urge the team to also check in with their connections.

Mr Barron said, “Our business is our people and those we work with. People’s safety is our highest priority, so everyone goes home to their families at the end of the day. We take safety very seriously.

“I never want to make a call to tell someone their loved one is injured or worse. I never want to receive a call that my loved ones are injured or worse. And I never want my family to receive a call that I am injured or worse. Safety is everyone’s responsibility, so we all go home to our loved ones, and at the end of the day, nothing is more important than that,” shared Mr Barron.

Wiley expects all workers within the organisation, contractors and visitors to our workplaces to follow safe work practices as prescribed under the legislation and in Wiley policies and procedures, and that they make every effort to eliminate work related injuries and illness to themselves and others.

Wiley Executive Chairman, Tom Wiley said, “At Wiley, we have each other’s back. We hold each other accountable to our strict safety system and procedures. We are always looking for ways to improve our approach and ensure a safe environment and a culture fixated on safety.  Nothing is more important than everyone going home at the end of the day, free of injury and chronic stress. We are determined to safeguard our people and the environment from incidents.

In honour of World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2020, consider what is it that you stay safe for.
